Sansom Street:
Four years ago, Mayor Street signed the Neighborhood Transformation Initiative, a $295 million blight-removal measure, under a tent on the 4500 block of Sansom Street. Last year, The Partnership CDC became the first entity in the city to bring a project to the market under NTI, selling 7 of what are expected to be 40 rehabilitated or newly constructed homes.

This project has transformed one of the most dangerous blocks in West Philadelphia into an area that is attracting new residents while holding onto those who want to stay. By the end of 2006, 15 houses will have been completely remodeled, most at market rate, and construction should be underway for 2-4 units of affordable housing as well.

Working with Northstar KAG, a for-profit builder, the CDC expects to begin construction of brand new housing on the 4600 block of Sansom Street in 2007 as well. This project will also be a mixed income development that not only provides housing, but also jobs for local residents, opportunities for minority contractors, and apprenticeships for young people interested in learning a trade. When complete, the cost of the project will be over $12,000,000.
